The Maruti Suzuki Swift single handedly changed the fortunes for the Indian automaker when it was launched in 2005 by bringing in a fresh appeal to the then aging Maruti range of cars. And after being a consistent best seller for the automaker, the iconic hatchback, now in its third generation, has crossed the 2 million sales unit - or 20 lakh sales unit - milestone. Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki as a whole had crossed the 20 million sales unit milestone too. Also earlier this year, the Maruti Suzuki Alto had crossed the 3.5 million mark making it the highest selling car in India ever.

As we mentioned earlier, the Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched in 2005 and the first milestone of a half a million units came in September 2010. The million units sales milestone was achieved in September 2013 followed by the 1.5 million sales milestone in March 2016. The Swift has always been a top seller for Maruti Suzuki alongside the Alto and the Dzire - which was originally called the Swift Dzire for its first two generations. The new Swift was launched at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo and impressed us with its typically playful performance and feature packed interiors.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift currently gets both a petrol and a diesel engine and both engines are mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The petrol engine is the tried and tested 1.2-litre K12 engine making 82 bhp of peak power while the diesel engine is the 1.3-litre DDIS motor making 74 bhp of peak power. Both petrol and diesel engines are very fuel efficient and offer 22 kmpl and 28.4 kmpl respectively.
