The Toyota - Suzuki alliance which was announced in 2017 is finally materializing and the Baleno will be the first model which Maruti Suzuki will share with Toyota. After much anticipation, Toyota has finally released the first teaser of its premium hatchback and has confirmed that it will be called the Glanza. Maruti Suzuki has also said that we can get to see the Toyota badged Baleno (Glanza) before June.

The new teaser has only given a limited view of the Glanza. It reveals the rear-side (C-Pillar) of the Glanza where it looks identical to the Baleno, save for the Toyota badge on the wheel hub cap. That said, the Glanza is expected to come with a new grille and slightly tweaked face in a bid to incorporate it. As of now, the Toyota Glanza is expected to be sold only in the Indian market, but Toyota could also consider it for some of the other developing markets as part of the agreement. The Toyota Glanza is expected to be launched in two petrol variants and will be powered by the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine which is seen under the hood of the Baleno. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard and gets the CVT gearbox as an option. Toyota is unlikely to get the diesel variants of the Baleno since Maruti has taken a final call on the Fiat-Sourced 1.3-litre DDiS 200 engine and has announced to phase it out by April 1, 2020.

Maruti Suzuki will assemble the Vitara Brezza at Toyota's Bengaluru plant.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the next model which will be cross-badged by Toyota. As we have exclusively reported, Maruti Suzuki will also make use of the unutilised production capacity of Toyota's Bengaluru plant to assemble the Vitara Brezza. The company has also reaffirmed that the Vitara Brezza will soon be offered with the petrol engine. Most likely, Toyota badged version will get it as well. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Ertiga will also be shared with Toyota which it will sell in India as well as other developing markets.
