The Renault Kwid has been around in our market for over five years and the French carmaker has given it several feature upgrades in terms of special editions and model year updates. However, its design has always remained unaltered and the Kwid never got a mid-life facelift. The spy pictures which have recently surfaced online suggest that a new facelift is around the corner and might come with a host of feature and cosmetic updates.
The spotted test mule gives a hint that it will be a significant facelift. The face of the new Kwid is a huge step-up from its predecessor while keeping the butch quotient intact. In fact, the new one builds on that distinction and elements like the new two-slat bold grille and wide centre air-dam integrated into the tall bumper add even more to the affair. In a new fashion, even the new Kwid gets slim LED eyebrows positioned separately above the headlamp cluster that insets into the bumper. Similar to what we have seen on the Tata Harrier and Hyundai Venue. The overall silhouette of the Kwid remains unchanged, however, the wheels look a size bigger. The rear of the new Kwid looks largely the same save for a tweaked bumper profile. However, the car is predominantly camouflaged and changes in the profile and creases are not apparent.
A couple months back, the Kwid was updated with safety and infotainment features. Driver side airbag, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors, speed-alert and seatbelt reminder are now standard on the Kwid. It even gets smartphone connectivity options now- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The upcoming model is also expected to comply with the new crash test norms and the stringent BS6 emission norms. The Kwid in India is offered with two engine options. The 799 cc, three-cylinder petrol engine makes 54 bhp at 5678 rpm and 72 Nm of peak torque at 4386 rpm. The 999 cc, three-cylinder petrol engine puts out 67 bhp at 5500 rpm and 91 Nm of peak torque at 4250 rpm.
