Bike sharing mobility company Rapido has decided to limit its services temporarily as the Indian government announced a 21-day lockdown in order to contain the novel coronavirus outbreak. According to a statement released by Rapido, the company's operations will be operational with a minimal network of vehicles to support essential services, for hospitals, doctors, nurses, and government staff. The government has announced a 21-day lockdown in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak from the midnight of March 25 till April 14, 2020.

The company said in a statement, "COVID-19 is a growing pandemic and fighting it is a priority for us at Rapido. After closely monitoring the on-ground scenario, we are temporarily suspending our services. However, we will be operational with a minimal network of vehicles to support essential services, for hospitals, doctors, nurses and government staff.

"We understand these are challenging times and we are working internally with our city teams to help support the livelihood of our captains in these difficult times. We are undertaking some positive measures to ensure that the captains are able to maintain a secure lifestyle during these tough times."

Rapido is a bike taxi service provider and the company is now providing Rs. 10 lakh group insurance to its driver-partners

The bike taxi service provider has also announced that it is providing Rs. 10 lakh group insurance coverage to the driver-partners, which it calls 'captains', to shield them from financial burden in case of hopsitalisation.

Rapido started operations in 2015, and claims it has around 15 lakh captains. The company says it provides services to more than 10 million customers across the country with presence in over 100 cities.
