The Union Government has given relief to all vehicle owners and drivers whose certificates have expired recently or were due for renewal in the coming days or. These dates have been extended owing to the CoronaVirus lockdown which is in force all over the country till April 14, 2020. According to circular issued by the Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways, the validity of fitness certificates, all types of permits, driving licenses, registrations or any other concerned documents whose extension of validity could not or will not be processed due to lockdown will now be extended. Any documents which have or would've expired after February 1, will now be treated valid till June 30, 2020.

The transport offices in all states are also in shutdown mode during the lockdown period. The order also mentions the 'Non-use clause facility' for transport vehicles for suspension of tax liability, which is operational in a number of states by using the VAHAN platform. It says a similar operating procedure may be adopted by remaining states to give relief to commercial vehicles like taxi, bus etc which are non-operational under present circumstances.
The ministry finally has added that many vehicles are involved in operations of essential services in the country and will not be able to renew their certificates/ documents during the lockdown. It has to be ensured that drivers of these vehicles are not harassed and face difficulties during the discharge of their duties. The enforcement authorities have been asked to treat all documents as valid till June 30 2020.
